Nigerian Chapman Punch(Lazy Chef Christmas)

by Nma Okpara // December 14, 2015 // 6 Comments
Growing up in Nigeria, I always heard of Chapman. Apart from Zobo, Chapman is a popular drink amongst Nigerians. I had never tasted it as a child until one day I tried it at a friend’s birthday party and I... Continue reading →

Coconut and Banana Loaf

by Nma Okpara // October 18, 2015 // 6 Comments
The atmosphere is turning cooler, the leaves are falling and the air feels crisp against my skin. This tells me it is time for warmer and hearty recipes. What more screams fall than some warm banana bread? Ahhh the mere thought... Continue reading →

Pineapple, Mango, Coconut Drink and Popsicles

by Nma Okpara // August 28, 2015 // 4 Comments
The Summer is almost over and I really need to share this recipe before it is actually over. This recipe has a lot of things I love. It has coconut milk, oranges, mangoes and pineapples. Without these fruits, no summer is complete... Continue reading →

Zobo Popsicles

by Nma Okpara // July 6, 2015 // No Comments
The heat wave this Summer has been crazy, so I decided to make some smoothie popsicles to cool down. But while in the process of thinking up something, I figured that the Zobo drink I had would work. Continue reading →

Zobo Syrup

This is the second in my Zobo series. Somewhere in my head I knew making the Zobo i.e. Hibiscus drink wouldn’t be enough and while talking to Sisi Kemi, she said “why don’t you do Zobo and ice cream?” and to that I... Continue reading →

Hibiscus and Fruit Punch (Zobo)

by Nma Okpara // July 6, 2015 // 16 Comments
Zobo o Zobo! I did not really drink a lot of this in Nigeria. I was more of a Ribena  girl. If mommy did not make it, I never had it. There is something about this drink that everyone loves. After a... Continue reading →

Nigerian lazy chef(live, life, love)

Hi... my name is Nma. I am quirky, and what you would call a nerd. As a growing girl, I disliked ‘going into the kitchen’ because I was so ‘lazy’. In fact, my laziness when it came to cooking could be said to have superseded epic proportions! At a point all I could cook was ‘jollof supergetti’ for my brothers. While my father was alive (may GOD rest his soul), he used to have me make him fresh, oil-less okra soup and boy did I hate it! As the years went by, I started falling in love with art. And the necessity to cook for others, and myself, pushed me to look for ways to rustle up simple but delicious meals. From then, I became more interested in cooking and started developing recipes. I now see cooking as an art, and I consider it my own contribution to the arts in general. Cooking has inspired my project - “Dine Africa”, which is set to show Africa’s culinary culture and exotic cuisines alongside its wide variety of ethnic nationalities, cultures and enormous land mass. Please join me as I celebrate the arts through African (Nigerian) cooking; and through my mother’s recipes (some of which I tweaked to fit my choices). I shall also share some easy kitchen tips for the ‘lazy’ cooks like me. Join me as we celebrate food, love and life. Dine Africa with me. Blessings.
